5 Eco-Friendly Drain Cleaners
Everybody is trying to be more eco-friendly these days. So how can you unblock your
drain without using harmful chemicals, and keep the Earth happy? We’ve done the
legwork for you. Here are 5 eco-friendly drain cleaners you need to know about.

Boiling Water
The easiest, and most cost-effective, way of unblocking a drain is by using boiling
water. Try this method first to avoid using any nasty chemicals. Boil as much water as
possible and slowly pour it down the drain.
Dishwashing Liquid
Not only will it keep your dishes clean, but dishwashing liquid can also unblock your
drain. A quarter of a cup mixed with boiling water will do the trick – simply pour the
mixture slowly down the drain. The dishwashing liquid will lubricate the blockage
and send it on its way.
Plunger
An oldie but a goodie, a plunger may be the answer you’re looking for. The suction
created by the plunger will give enough force to move that blockage. Roll up your
sleeves and feel good knowing that the only grease you’ll be using is elbow grease.
The Old Coat Hanger Method
You read that right – the humble coat hanger can unblock your drain, and keep toxic
chemicals at bay. Straighten your coat hanger as much as possible, bending one end
into a hook. Now you can push your hanger into the drain to pull up the blockage. Happy digging!
Baking Soda and Salt
Your kitchen pantry may have everything you need to unblock your drain without
resorting to chemicals. Mix half a cup of baking soda and salt with each together and
pour it down the drain. After twenty minutes, pour boiling water down too. The
chemical reaction will dissolve the blockage.
